About Us
From
its very inception, United has been forward-looking in its
approach to theological education. A seminary of the United
Church of Christ, United was the first seminary in mainline
Protestantism with an ecumenical charter. The founders intended
that the seminary should pioneer new ways to educate people for ministry
in a changing world. |

Today that commitment is manifest
in our integrated curriculum, the new Academy for Vital Christianity,
a faculty and student body comprising a rich mix of theological
traditions, a focus on the arts as a source of inspiration
for worship, and, always, an ethic of social justice that
takes seriously the responsibility to move people and communities
to greater wholeness and justice.
Whether you seek theological education for professional leadership
in the church or for work and ministry in other areas of society,
we have programs and offerings to meet your needs.
United
is a vibrant, creative, caring, and challenging place in which
to pursue theological education:
- Meet
our faculty, dedicated
to your spiritual, ethical, and professional growth and contributing
through research and publication to the vitality of the church;
- Investigate
our distinctive degree programs with course
offerings to prepare you for transformative ministries
through a highly regarded curriculum that carefully integrates academic knowledge, practical skills, spiritual formation,
and ethical focus;
- Open
new possibilities for theological education through the Academy
for Vital Christianity, which offers theological education
beyond the walls of the seminary and for those not seeking
a graduate degree;
- Enjoy
our beautiful campus that
allows you the luxury of quiet contemplation and convenient
access to vibrant urban
life;
- Be a part
of our diverse community that is both supportive and collegial.
